Kepler College (formerly Kepler College of Astrological Arts and Sciences) is an online astrology certificate programme. It is named after the mathematician and astronomer Johannes Keepler, who was born on December 27, 1571, in the Free Imperial City of Weil der Stadt (now part of the Stuttgart Region in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, 30 kilometres west of Stuttgart’s centre). Sebald Kepler, his grandfather, had served as Lord Mayor of the city. Johannes had two brothers and one sister by the time he was born, and the Kepler family fortune was in decline. Heinrich Kepler, Johannes’ father, earned a meagre living as a mercenary and abandoned the family when Johannes was five years old. He was thought to have died in the Netherlands during the Eighty Years’ War.
His mother, an innkeeper’s daughter named Katharina Guldenmann, was a healer and herbalist. Johannes, who was born prematurely, claimed to have been weak and sickly as a child. Nonetheless, his phenomenal mathematical ability frequently astounded visitors to his grandfather’s inn. [Kepler witnessed the Great Comet of 1577 as a child, which drew the attention of astronomers all over Europe. He was introduced to astronomy at a young age and developed a strong interest in it that would last the rest of his life.
He saw the Great Comet of 1577 when he was six years old, writing that he “was taken by hismother to a high place to look at it.” In 1580, at the age of nine, he witnessed another astronomical event, a lunar eclipse, recalling being “called outdoors” to see it and noting that the moon “appeared quite red.” However, smallpox as a child left him with poor vision and crippled hands, limiting his ability to observe astronomy.

After finishing grammar school, Latin school, and seminary at Maulbronn, Kepler enrolled in Tübinger Stift at the University of Tübingen in 1589. There, he studied philosophy under Vitus Müller[and theology under Jacob Heerbrand (a student of Philipp Melanchthon at Wittenberg), who also taught Michael Maestlin as a student until he became Chancellor of Tübingen in 1590. He excelled as a mathematician and gained a reputation as a skilled astrologer, casting horoscopes for fellow students. He learned both the Ptolemaic and Copernican systems of planetary motion from Michael Maestlin, Tübingen’s professor of mathematics from 1583 to 1631[At the time, he became a Copernican. In a student debate, he defended heliocentrism from both a theoretical and theological standpoint, claiming that the Sun was the universe’s primary source of motive power.
Despite his desire to become a minister, Kepler was recommended for a position as a mathematics and astronomy teacher at a Protestant school in Graz near the end of his studies. He accepted the position in April 1594, when he was 22 years old. Graz (1594–1600) Kepler and his wife’s portraits Kepler and Barbara Müller’s house in Gössendorf, near Graz (1597–1599) Before finishing his studies at Tübingen, Kepler accepted an offer to teach mathematics at the Protestant school in Graz in place of Georg Stadius (now in Styria, Austria). During this time (1594–1600), he published a number of official calendars and prognostications, which boosted his reputation as an astrologer. Although Kepler had mixed feelings about astrology, he was a firm believer in a link between the cosmos and Kepler (1571–1630). Kepler College received a grant in March 2000.
Many academics criticised the HEC Board’s decision because of Kepler’s emphasis on astrology. An administrator at the University of Washington called the HEC Board’s approval “ludicrous,” comparing astrology research to “quackery.” In a Boston Herald editorial, John Silber, chancellor of Boston University, wrote that the school’s promoters “honoured Kepler not for his strength but for his weakness, as if a society advocating drunkenness namHowever, it is inexcusable for the government to certify nonsense teachers as competent or to authorize—that is, to endorse—the awarding of nonsense degrees.”
Kepler College advertised itself as the Western Hemisphere’s only institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in astrological studies, and 31 students enrolled for the first term in July 2000. The majority of the coursework was delivered online, allowing students from all over the United States to enrol with the requirement that they be present in-person for one week of the 11-week term.Kepler College failed to obtain the necessary accreditation status by 2010, and as a result, the HEC Board revoked Kepler’s right to grant degrees. Kepler became an online certificate programme after losing this authority.ed provisional authorization to grant degrees from Washington State’s Higher Education Coordinating (HEC) Board while the school pursued regional or national accreditation, which is required to maintain degree-granting status.Kepler College was founded in 2000 as an unaccredited higher education institution.
