Robyn Nevin Biography

Robyn Anne Nevin AO (born September 25, 1942) is an Australian actress, director, and former executive director of both the Queensland and Sydney Theatre Companies.  She is most recognised for her roles in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both 2003) as Councillor Dillard and Edna in the horror thriller Relic (2020).

Robyn Nevin was born to Josephine Pauline Casey and William George Nevin in Melbourne, Australia. She took the lead in the school’s production of Snow White at the Theatre Royal when she was there.

Her parents were conservative and traditional, her father the managing director of Dunlop Australia and her mother a housewife, so enrolling in the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) as a 16-year-old in the first intake in 1959 was a bold move that her parents wholeheartedly supported.

Throughout the early 1960s, she worked in a number of radio and television positions, primarily for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, including current affairs, music, chat shows, and children’s programmes. In 1970, she appeared in Bob Ellis and Michael Boddy’s The Legend of King O’Malley with the Old Tote Theatre Company. She returned to the theatre, where she has been a fixture for the past 40 years.
