Tina Arena Wiki/Bio
Australian kid TV star Tina Arena became a pair of very big shoes and one of the best-selling women artists in history. Before Arena was a successful recording artist, however, she was the eight-year-old artist Tiny Tina Arena on Australian Young Talent Time TV series. She was invited to become a permanent member after hearing for the talent show and winning the prize several weeks in a row.
Seven years later, Arena was still on show, and although she found it difficult to divide her youth into two – spending her first half in the light of the camera while at the shadow of it after 15 years – she started to show up in nightclubs, record and record commercial jingles.
By 1989, at the age of 21, Tina Arena would make her comeback. Her first album, Strong as Steel, was released and she watched “I Need Your Body” become one of the country’s largest singles that year. In 1991, Arena was working on her songwriting skills in Los Angeles and toured Australia with Joseph and Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (playing the narrator).
The second big album of Arena, Don’t Ask, made it a worldwide star. After the first single “Chains” hit in Australia, it crossed the globe in order to reach the British Top Ten and the American Top 40. The album has been platinum certified 8 times in Australia and has sold more than two million copies worldwide. She has worked for her third album In Deep with Mick Jones (of the Foreigner) and even covers Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
After In Deep’s success, Arena turns to theatre, performing Esmeralda in the United Kingdom. Notre Dame de Paris’ production and “The Flame” played in her homeland during the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Her fourth studio album, Just Me, was released in 2001 and did not achieve the global achievement of her previous releases, yet she still certified gold in Australia and France. Arena was a tentative step into dance music when she lent her vocals to the US Number 1 of the 2003 Roc Project, “Never (Past Tense),” and released Greatest Hits 1994-2004 the following year.
At the end of 2005 Arena released Un Autre Univers, her first French album, which ranked nine in the French charts and gained platinum status in the Top 200 for 78 weeks. Two years later, after her record deal came to an end, she financed the production of Songs of Love & Loss and then negotiated a new deal to release the album with EMI Australia.
As its title suggests, the album consists primarily of love songs, including coverings of artists like Dusty Springfield and Diana Ross. She toured in Australia with Italian crossover artist Andrea Bocelli in 2008 and released Songs of Love & Loss, Vol. 2, recorded live with an orchestra led by Simon Hale in London. The Onstage Collection (recorded in 2009 on a Love & Loss tour at the Melbourne Arts Centre) was published in 2010 and featured duets with Kane Alexander.
As judge for Young Talent Time, the Australian TV show where everything started, she returned in 2012 and had completed an Australian tour by the end of 2012, which saw her supported by many different symphonic orchestras. Symphony of Life, the resulting live album was recorded in Melbourne and released in November. Reset, her first five-year studio album and her first full-length English album in over 10 years, was released in October 2013.
The record became another platinum seller, and Arena remained high in Australia during this time as she appeared on TV’s Stars Dance. Her autobiography, Now I Can Dance — named after a hit single of the late 1990s — was also published to match the album. Eleven were recorded in October 2015 not only in Australia, but also in France, Sweden and England. She entered the ARIA Hall of Fame the following month, welcomed by Kylie Minogue. She published the career overview Greatest Hits & Interpretations in 2017.
